Path of Exile Item Upgrades
The performance of a variety of Path of Exile items can be enhanced by upgrading their performance. They can be a great source of extra damage, more AD or even more attaches.
Rare-grade equipment can be superior to upgraded Common or Magic gear because of their high requirements.
Armor
Armor upgrades are a form of upgrade that can be used on weapons and armor items. They improve the stats of the item they’re attached to. Armor upgrades are available in the world of the game and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at bonfires. Additionally, they can be rescued from items with upgrade components inside them, with a professional or higher salvage kit.
The amount of damage that an armored item or weapon is able to absorb is dependent on the degree of upgrades. Upgrading a piece of armor to its highest upgrade level will increase its ability to absorb damage. However, it’s important to keep in mind that this will increase its weight, causing it to weigh more than it was before.
There are several different types of armor upgrade available in the game. Each one has a distinct impact. Certain upgrades give armor an additional amount of health points while others make it more powerful and lighter. The name of the armor upgrade will indicate the type of upgrade that an item will receive, as shown below.
Some of the upgrades are also magic or a mix of technology and magic, which is shown by a “Magic” or “Hybrid” entry in the table below. Additionally, some upgrades require charges to use, which is indicated by the “Charges” entry in the table below. These charges are either continuously updated or never expire, depending on the upgrade.
The cheapest method of upgrading armor is to use Iron Ore, which can be obtained through exploring the surroundings and looting small loot chests. Titanium is more expensive, however, it is available from the smelters in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, like the Reforge or the Hot Potato Books can only be used on high-level armor pieces. These upgrades can give a significant increases in stats and are well worth the investment.
Upgrading a piece of armor to the highest upgrade level will greatly increase its defense capabilities, but the player should be aware that increasing its weight will dramatically reduce its agility and speed. It is not recommended to upgrade armor past +9. The added defense usually isn’t worth the weight and power expenses of the upgrades.
Weapons
Weapon upgrades allow players to increase the effectiveness of specific aspects of the weapon. Upgrades can improve the accuracy of a rifle or the damage that shotgun shells cause. Certain firearms have upgrades that enhance their inherent characteristics. Frictionless materials (improves stability, reduces the risk of the risk of overheating) and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile’s acceleration to cause more damage) are two examples.
The majority of upgrades for weapons require the use of a whetblade, or one of the three Power Dices and a different amount of Minerals and Erons. They can be gained by completing Side Quests or by killing a certain amount of bosses and monsters.
The process of upgrading a weapon, equipment Set piece, or Whetblade requires visiting the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine and paying her an upgrade price of a set number of Bars. The more bars needed to complete an upgrade, the more advanced the level. If you have multiple upgrade materials, the cost of upgrading will be lower.
In Chapter 2: Season 5 the way you upgrade weapon and equipment sets has changed a bit. Prior to Chapter 2: Season 5, you could upgrade your weapon or equipment by paying a specific amount of Bars. You could do this until your weapon or equipment reached its maximum upgrade level and at that point, the upgrades would be reset.
You can still do this, but the process is high on RNG and low on agency. Instead, you’re better off going to stores and purchasing equipment that has low upgrade levels but good base scores and stat distributions. They will also have a chance at gaining you the best tier of bonuses and blessings.
Most players will want to make the most of upgrades to weapons they use most frequently to help them level up quicker. In addition, players should consider upgrading the weapons that are most popular with their squadmates to increase their power and effective. For instance, Shepard should consider upgrading the M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R to make it more useful when paired with biotech specialists such as Grunt and Tali.
Jewels
Jewels are used in the armor’s sockets and weapons, increasing the power of a character and bringing about secondary effects. They can be created through a process called jewelry crafting, which is where you combine a gem and a number of specific ingredients at a table for jewelry. The higher the grade of the gem has, the more powerful its secondary effect. These reagents can be obtained from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses in the world, or by finding Legendary Gear. You can also buy them from The Jeweler in exchange for gold and Scattered Prisms.
The Jeweler can improve the quality of gemstones in stages ranging from Crude up to Royal. The stat boosts can vary depending on the level the jewel is in when it’s inserted into weapons, jewelry, or equipment.
All levels of jewels are crafted at the Jeweler, with the exception of the rare and legendary jewels which require you to be at a high enough level to obtain these. Like other upgrade components jewels can be swapped out by a different jewel of the same type without damaging it. However you can only swap out one jewel in a piece of equipment only once.
Utilizing more jewels in the movement can make it feel more comfortable, and is often performed for aesthetic reasons. Jewels also enhance performance and create a surface harder than metal so that repeated friction caused by pivots does not cause damage to them.
A Glyphmaster can offer glyphs to improve the appearance of your weapons and shields. These glyphs offer a small boost and can be freely swapped, but they’re not guaranteed to show up as loot. Glyphs can be upgraded like jewelry, at the Jeweler for gold and Scattered Crystal. Glyphs are also removed from the inventory, and they are returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, such as aegis or traits cannot be exchanged, and can only be found by using an Upgrade extractor, or salvaging with Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage.
Trinkets
Trinkets are items of equipment that provide an array of small, but beneficial advantages to your hero. They are available in the starter area as rewards for personal stories or loot. They are also available through vendors and after doing road interaction. They may also be crafted by jewelers, and then found or purchased from the Trading Post.
The first trinket players will be able to unlock is the cloak. It gives a small, but useful bonus in speed of movement and evasion. Then, they can get amulets, rings, and necklaces in a similar manner to the way a player obtains armor and weapons. Each piece of equipment comes with one upgrade slot that accepts either a universal or a jewel upgrade. item upgrader offer fewer benefits and can be used in any kind of equipment however, jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded, and is only compatible with certain types of trinkets.
These trinkets can provide additional bonuses and abilities that are active when the hero isn’t engaged in combat. This lets a hero be more efficient when they are not active. It can also compensate for the absence of strong team or talent tree slots which are usually filled by a hero’s top stats.
A good general rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you aren’t planning to replace soon, followed by items with desirable stats but less important than the iLevel of the item being upgraded. This is true especially if you’re looking to upgrade several statistics on an item. It’s better to upgrade one important stat rather than two suboptimal ones.
Jungle players often upgrade their yellow trinkets to a red one at the start of the game. Mid and top players however will pick either a pink or green ward, depending on the matchup. These choices will have an impact on a hero’s ability to control the map.
In addition to the things mentioned above, players can also find other trinkets throughout the game in the form of trophies and awards. They can be earned through completing certain milestones in the story, like finishing a chapter’s main quest or destroying a boss. These achievements can be seen by selecting the relevant achievement from the reward tab of the hero menu.
